Martin Wong's Bricky New York
I finally got to go see the Martin Wong Exhibition at Bronx Museum of Art up until March 13th. Even though it was a long trek from Bed Stuy it was well worth the trip, plus there's a whole world of art spaces and people watching if one decides to make a day of it. There's the Freedman Home, Bronx Arts Space and Longwood Art Gallery at Hostos to name a few.
The only thing I was not a fan of was the blue walls, a bit claustrophobic and redundant for my taste. That said i don't know the whole story. Maybe it was Mr. Wong's dying wish to one day have an exhibition of his paintings on blue walls.
I'm posting 20 images to give you and idea of how this artists took a bleak and shunned upon world painted it beautiful. The Bronx Museum has done a service to us all by bringing this exhibition into fruition.
